An Ikeja Special Offences Court has sentenced Peter Nwogu-Anucha, an estate agent, to three years in prison for stealing N700,000. Justice Rahman Oshodi found the prosecution successfully proved the theft charges against Nwogu-Anucha and his company, Business Defense Solutions Ltd.
The court heard that Mr. Obinna Ukpabi, the complainant, expressed interest in leasing a property through the defendant who acted as a realtor. Justice Oshodi stated that Nwogu-Anucha had a history of fraudulent schemes targeting unsuspecting victims and their money.
During sentencing, the judge highlighted the lack of remorse shown by Nwogu-Anucha. This, combined with the evidence presented, led to the three-year jail term. Additionally, Business Defense Solutions Ltd. was fined N500,000, payable within 90 days of the judgement.
This case serves as a cautionary tale for those seeking estate agent services. Do the importance of thorough research and choosing reputable agents to ensure a safe and secure property transaction.
