High Court to Adjudicate Land Ownership Dispute Between Adamakin Investment Limited and Lagos State Government

The Lagos State High Court is set to preside over a significant land ownership dispute between Adamakin Investment Limited and the Lagos State Government. Adamakin Investment Limited, acting as the sole attorney for the trustees of the late Iyalode Madam Efunroye Tinubu’s estate, has publicly asserted its legitimate ownership and management of extensive land parcels across Lagos State. The company references several Supreme Court judgments affirming the late Iyalode’s ownership of these lands, which include areas in Chevron, Sangotedo, Waterways Island, Eleko Junction, Kaiyetoro, and Magodo Phase II.

In a recent public notice, Adamakin Investment Limited warned encroachers, trespassers, and unauthorized occupants to vacate these lands immediately or face legal consequences for trespassing. The company also highlighted the presence of fraudulent individuals using questionable titles to deceive unsuspecting buyers.

The Lagos State Government, on the other hand, maintains that certain parcels of land under dispute are designated for public use and development projects. The government asserts that these acquisitions are lawful and in line with the state’s urban development plans.

This legal battle underscores the complexities surrounding land ownership in Lagos State, where historical claims often intersect with modern urban development initiatives. The outcome of this case could set a precedent for future land disputes in the region, potentially influencing policies on land acquisition, compensation, and the rights of original landowners.

As the court prepares to hear arguments from both sides, stakeholders and residents await a resolution that balances the interests of private entities and public development goals. The case highlights the ongoing challenges in managing land resources in rapidly urbanizing areas like Lagos State.
