Lagos property owners and developers are actively participating in the 90-day amnesty program introduced by the Lagos State Government to regularize their building permits, according to the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA).
This initiative, launched in early May 2024 by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, waives penalty fees for those seeking to obtain the necessary building permits for existing structures. The amnesty window closes on July 30, 2024.
LASPPPA General Manager Kehinde Osinaike expressed his satisfaction with the program’s progress. “We’ve observed a remarkable level of compliance from property owners since the program began on May 2nd,” he said. Osinaike commended residents who have already approached the agency to regularize their building approvals.
The amnesty program is seen as a welcome relief for property owners who may have constructed buildings without permits in the past. By taking advantage of this window, they can avoid future legal issues and ensure their properties comply with safety regulations.
This positive response from property owners suggests the amnesty program is achieving its goals. It encourages responsible development within Lagos while offering property owners a chance to rectify past oversights.
