Ogun State Offers Relief to Residents Displaced by Demolition

Residents of the Igbeba Housing Estate in Ogun State who were impacted by recent demolitions can breathe a sigh of relief. The Ogun State Government has approved the allocation of 15 housing units to these displaced residents.

The units are part of the state’s ongoing affordable housing program located in Itanrin, Ijebu-Ode. This move comes as part of Ogun’s urban regeneration program aimed at modernizing the state’s infrastructure.

According to the General Manager of the Ogun State Housing Corporation, Mr. Wale Ojo, the demolitions were necessary as the buildings at Igbeba had become outdated and no longer met safety standards.

Ojo emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting the affected residents. He highlighted that residents were given ample notice, four months to be exact, to vacate the buildings before demolition began. Additionally, the government has extended mortgage opportunities to those impacted, offering them discounted interest rates.

This is not the only initiative Ogun has undertaken to assist residents. The state has actively encouraged them to participate in the affordable housing program, providing them with a clear path to secure new homes.

One resident, Mr. Akeem Rasheed, expressed his appreciation for the government’s efforts. While acknowledging the inconvenience of the demolition, he is hopeful that the promised relief measures will be delivered. Residents like Rasheed believe that if the government fulfills its commitments, this experience will ultimately be positive.

This initiative by the Ogun State Government demonstrates their dedication to balancing urban development with the well-being of its citizens. By providing new housing options and financial assistance, Ogun is working to ensure a smooth transition for displaced residents.
