The Federal Government of Nigeria has again emphasized its commitment to providing civil servants with affordable housing options. This renewed pledge comes under the Federal Integrated Staff Housing (FISH) program, overseen by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF).
Dr. Folasade Yemi Esan, the Head of Civil Service, reiterated this commitment during a recent inspection visit to an ongoing housing project in Gwagwalada. The project involves constructing 116 two-bedroom semi-detached bungalows specifically designated for civil servants upon completion.
This initiative aligns with Pillar 6 of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021-2025 (FCCSIP-25). The FISH program is financially supported by the Federal Government Staff Housing Loans Board (FGSHLB) and is being executed through partnerships with real estate developers.
The Gwagwalada project is expected to be finished by June 2024 and will be included in the activities commemorating the upcoming Civil Service Week. Encouragingly, Alhaji Ibrahim Mairiga, the Executive Secretary of the FGSHLB, announced that two developers have already completed and delivered their buildings to the Board.
This renewed focus on affordable housing for civil servants is a positive step towards improving their well-being and standard of living. Owning a home is a significant achievement, and this program can potentially alleviate the housing burden faced by many civil servants.
