Edo Govt Demolishes Shaibu’s Residence Security Post

Edo State Government Demolishes Part Of Shaibu’s Residence

In a move sparking controversy, Edo State Government demolished the security post at the private residence of former Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu on Sunday, April 14th, 2024. The action comes just a week after Shaibu’s impeachment.

Located within the Government Reservation Area (GRA) by Benin Golf Course, the security post was reportedly a hive of activity during Shaibu’s tenure. However, it became deserted following his removal from office last week.

According to reports, a team from Edo State Government House, accompanied by the Ministry of Roads and Bridges, arrived at the residence on Sunday evening without prior notification. Backed by armed security personnel, the team used a bulldozer to swiftly demolish the “expensive structures.”

The reason behind the demolition remains unclear. There are no official statements from the Edo State Government regarding the action. Shaibu has also not commented on the matter publicly.

This development has generated mixed reactions. Some residents of Benin City view it as a targeted action against the former Deputy Governor, while others believe it might be linked to ongoing efforts to reclaim government property within the GRA.

The demolition is likely to raise questions about due process and the political climate in Edo State. As the situation unfolds, residents await clarification from the government on the rationale behind this unexpected action.
