Lagos-Calabar Road to Get Upgrade: Realignment and Flyovers Planned to Connect Lekki Deep Sea Port and Dangote Refinery

The Nigerian government has announced plans to upgrade the Lagos-Calabar coastal road project to better connect economic powerhouses in the region. This ambitious project includes realignment of certain sections and the construction of flyovers to create a seamless link between the Lekki Deep Sea Port, the Dangote Refinery, and the existing Lagos-Calabar route.

Engr. David Umahi, the Minister of Works, revealed these plans during a recent visit to the Lagos Free Trade Zone. He highlighted the project’s potential to significantly boost economic activity by improving connectivity between these key locations.

The realignment will ensure the Lagos-Calabar road adheres to its designated right-of-way. This may necessitate the demolition of structures and beachfronts that currently encroach upon the planned route. Additionally, a 47-kilometer flyover will be constructed by Hi-Tech, a construction company, to provide a direct connection between the Lekki Deep Sea Port, Epe, and the Dangote Refinery.

This development is expected to improve efficiency in the movement of goods between the Lekki Deep Sea Port, a major trade gateway, and the Dangote Refinery, a colossal industrial plant. The upgraded road will also benefit the eight other states the Lagos-Calabar highway traverses, promoting economic integration across the region.

While details regarding the timeline and budget for this project are yet to be unveiled, the announcement signifies the government’s commitment to improving Nigeria’s infrastructure and fostering economic growth. The improved Lagos-Calabar road is poised to become a critical artery for trade and commerce in the years to come.
