Lagos Cracks Down on Illegal Sewage Disposal: Construction Firm Sealed

The Lagos State Government has taken a strong stance against environmental pollution, sealing the office building of Carrillion Construction Company on Wednesday. The company, located on Plot 10b, T.F. Kuboye Street, Oniru Extension, Victoria Island, was found to be illegally discharging sewage into public drainage using a pumping machine.

This action highlights the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office’s (LSWMO) commitment to enforcing environmental regulations. Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, emphasized the government’s “zero tolerance for illegal discharge of untreated sewage/wastewater into the public drains and water bodies.”

The discharge of untreated sewage poses significant health risks and contributes to water pollution. Contaminated water bodies can spread waterborne diseases and harm aquatic life.

The Lagos government’s enforcement action sends a clear message to construction firms and residents alike. Proper sewage disposal is crucial for protecting public health and the environment.

It is unclear at this point what penalties Carrillion Construction might face or how long the closure will last.
